LOL, I know a quite a few of you have been friended by ![[info]](http://l-stat.livejournal.com/img/userinfo.gif) dvumhine and were assuming she was someone we may have known in high school. I posted this to her weird steam-of-consciousness writing journal, wondering if I knew her or if she was a spammer.
Me: Who are you, mystery person? Do I even know you?
dvumhine: please remove me
Me: Honey, I didn't add you. You added me. You've added a lot of people who don't know you at all. May I ask why?
And then she figured out how to un-friend me (and some of my friends, too) without answering. So, to all who were wondering, I don't think we know her. She just seems to be a not-too-bright blogger who likes adding random people (and all the friends of random people) for unknown reasons. Oh, internet people. |

Well, I survived my birthday, and it was actually quite nice. I've been saying that my birthday is bad luck, since things (like my pets) or people (like me, almost) have the tendency to die around this time of the year. This only sort of happened, as predicted, when my laptop hard drive completely erased itself. Luckily, Apple replaced the drive, and almost nothing was lost. Going for a few days without a decent computer was tragic, but I got a free OS upgrade. Hoorah! I suppose it's pretty pathetic when my standards are "no one died" and "people didn't forget about me" but I'm still thankful.
My party was pretty damn epic, and thanks to y'all who showed up (and thanks to Nat for planning everything!). Much alcohol, amusement, and molestation was had by all (as far as I could tell). It's been fun mocking all my drunken classmates this week. Good times!

Hooray! The semester is over. Now all that's left is crossing my fingers and hoping I managed to save my grades at the last minute. I'm tired of school, tired of drama, and tired of the goddamn holiday season, but at least it's vacation. I think I haven't been replying to a lot of y'all on LJ, sorry about that. Since life has pretty much sucked to the extreme for me and everyone I know lately, I guess it's refreshing to have exciting, distracting things happening. Like car accidents. Yesterday I got into my first car accident with a real person! At the intersection next to the fire station a large truck with his mirror turned the wrong way and his turn signal off turned into my lane, and smashed the front of my car a bit. Unfortunately, the lanes aren't marked very clearly and legally, I might have been at fault, so no money for me. The guy was very nice and it could have been a lot worse, so whatever. The headlights are working again and everything seems okay now that its covered in bits of wire and duct tape, but it kinda looks like shit. Hooray!
Obligatory fangirlishness: ELECTRIC SIX SHOW OMG! Tracie and I got to see them in San Francisco (in a very pretty ex-whorehouse) and it was incredibly awesome. The crowd was hyperactive and the music was cracktastic and fantastic. We even got to sit at a table adjacent to the lead singer (Dick Valentine, LOL) and try to stare at him and eavesdrop in a not-too-creepy way. AWESOMENESS. |

I don't know if it's ironic or just stupid to tell people, "well, I'd better go home while I can still drive" and then smash my car into a curb hard enough to pop the tire. A hundred yards from my house, on a road I've driven countless times. I'm not sure what's wrong with me but I think I've been blacking out a bit, but of course I'm not sure, since I can't remember. I'm ready for the exhaustion/dizzy spells/blurry vision to go away now.
I've never actually hurt my car before and now I'm emo. :( |

Hello all! I'm home, and I actually had a lovely trip. The weather was tolerable, the food was great and it was very fun to see my family. For the most part, everything was uneventful.
Good to be back in California, though.

It's official! I have completely finished 4 of my 5 summer classes! All done!! I took one final today and finished two essays, and that's it!
I am incredibly relieved. I was definitely getting a bit worried there for a while.
And now I'll be leaving for Illinois tomorrow at 6 in the morning. I'm sure you will all miss me horribly, but I'll be back on wednesday. And then it's summer again!!!!!!!! (briefly)

I think I'm being buried alive under a pile of homework. School is officially half over, for me. So far it hasn't been too bad, just exhausting.
My life, in summary:
-I have 3 quizzes/tests this week
-I have to finish 4 postings/pseudo-essays
-I haven't had a real cup of coffee in 11 days
-I've only driven my car to school 2 days this summer
-I rode 16 miles round-trip on my bike this morning for 0.5 hours of class (as my asshole teacher left early)
-Between Sierra and me, we've had 3 flat tires so far this week (only 1 actually was completely ruined)
Oh, and I think I've discovered the Bermuda Triangle of highway intersections. So far this summer, at the same place, I've almost been hit by a truck twice when I had right-of-way (today I think I almost got hit yet again when I stopped in the street to scream at the other driver), Sierra ran into a fence and ripped the rack off her bike, and someone's car hit a fire hydrant, creating an amazing fountain of water. Of course we had to stop and admire the fountain, not noticing a great deal of broken glass on the ground that caused the aforementioned ruined tire.
If I wasn't so tired I'd probably start getting paranoid.

So, The Summer of Awesome (Part I) is officially over, and the amount of classes I signed up for is finally starting to sink in. Oh dear. This may have been a bad idea.
Cutting down on my caffeine addiction and quitting all headache medicine at the same time was definitely a bad idea. Clearly I secretly hate myself.
My 6 ducklings are doing well, and they're almost ready to be outside during the day, thankfully. Awwww.
I need to stop using LJ as a way to avoid doing homework. Only two more essays, two quizzes, and chapters from three different books to read before I'm done for the week! |

Summer has been pretty damn awesome up until today, which was sort of epic fail day. I called up my pharmacy to ask why my prescriptions weren't being processed after weeks of requests, and got this little surreal conversation:
Me: Hello, I'd like to ask about my Lantus insulin prescription. I've called it in three times and haven't heard back.
Pharmacy Tech: OK *checks info and finds records* Here it is.
Me: So, can I renew this?
Pharmacy Tech: Nope.
Me: Nope?!
Pharmacy Tech: Yeah, we faxed in the request to your doctor's office and someone wrote "NOPE" on it. N-O-P-E. It was actually sort of funny. We were all talking about it. *laughs*
Me: . . .
Pharmacy Tech: *laughter fades*
Me: So, I guess I need to talk to a doctor.
Pharmacy Tech: Yeah . . .
Me: *hangs up and slams head into wall repeatedly*
So much for medical professionals. It took another hour, approximately 40 minutes of irritating elevator music, and five different phone numbers to get things straightened out, and by then I was pretty much hysterical. So I went to the store and tried on winter coats for a few hours. Also, my head hurts.
In other news, I'm quite ready to move out of here and into my hypothetical mansion in Davis. |

Well, I've survived over a week of the new semester. For about ten minutes I was really happy to be back at school but I'm quite over that now. I was worried that this semester would kill me, since I'm taking 5 classes, but now I think I'm just going to be bored to death.
My classes:
Chem is the same as last semester, and of course I like it. Unfortunately, I have lots of thermodynamics to look forward to in the future, which is the most confusing subject in the class and makes me want to change my major. Painful.
Calculus is dull. My teacher seems nice enough, but she can't make it interesting. I'm worried I won't be able to pay attention even after we stop reviewing stupid things. I'm already behind on my homework because I'm lazy. Also, my class is really quiet and won't answer questions at all.
My stats teacher seems sorta crazy, in a mostly entertaining way, though he seems to be a little too enthusiastic about the subject, which is painfully boring. 2 hours is far too long for the amount of material we're learning.
I can't understand my physics lecture teacher very well, as her accent is really strong. As if physics wasn't unintelligible enough as it is. And do we really need to learn the metric system yet again? Apparently we do.
Physics lab should be OK. The teacher seems to have a weird sense of humor. I just hate friday classes.
So far, this semester feels like I'm back in high school, with subjects I dislike and classmates who don't want to be there. *Sigh* Hopefully it'll get better.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all! Or whatever. Hope everyone's holidays are going alright. Or at least tolerable.
Sorry I've been rather absent from the LJ lately, why do you people always post like crazy when I don't have time to read anything? If I don't read LJ I might actually have to talk to people. Ick.
Random thoughts:
- School's pretty good right now. I actually like it. This continues to shock and astound me. It's just unnatural. Classes, teachers, and people I don't hate. I got so used to being miserable at high school it feels odd not to be miserable.
- I think I'm going to end up getting a B.S. degree in chemistry. WTF am I thinking? I truly don't know. I haven't broken/spilled anything in chem class in ages, though. Clearly that means it is meant to be.
- I think I want to go to Davis. Mostly because I can't think of anything else to do.
- I spent the first day of my vacation wading around in a series of ponds, getting rotten eggs out of nest boxes. Good times! On the up side, my wood ducks have migrated back to the area and are apparently doing quite well. Aww.
- I'm having dinner with my parents' friends and their crazy hippie friends, as usual. Hopefully they'll be as odd and entertaining as always. Considering last year there was a guy talking about his plans to make a movie of a chinchilla that handglides, it's probably a safe bet.

Yay! I'm housesitting for my friend Madeine for a couple weeks, at the place where my duckies and Candy's family live, though they've migrated away for the season. It's a bit like camping, but it's very pretty here and I can sit outside and get wireless internet. I found a frog in the sink this morning. It amused me.
The tenant next door has turned out to be evil and won't move out or pay rent. I'm avoiding her but just in case she can hear me I've been playing loud music and TV shows all day to encourage her to leave. LOL passive agressivity.
